Damon Rentie
Saxophone – Alto, Tenor & Soprano
Having a music career which spans more than twenty years Damon Rentie has a tremendous new CD ready for release. To those of you who have been around Smooth Jazz for a while the name may be familiar. Damon recorded three Lp's in the late eighties,Designated Hitter,Don't Look Back and Skyline for Palo Alto/TBA records, all of
which charted top teens on Billboard's Jazz Charts. At the same time he was touring and recording with artists such as Atlantic Starr,Debarge,Gino Vanelli,Patrice Rushen,Tenna Marie,Billy Ocean and Miki Howard to name a few. He has stayed busy over the years writing music and working locally as well as traveling with different bands along the West Coast.
"Writing music has always been my passion and deciding to start my own Record Label came as a result of that. I just kept writing and compiling material which I knew I would use someday." Hence Nu-Tone Records was born. This is Nu Smooth Jazz, having been one of the original architects Damon is redefining his sound with twenty plus years of musical evolution behind him.
Since remarrying seven years ago to a wonderful vocalist, Melique Berger,"my writing continues to be inspired," Damon expresses, "and together we're bringing my best material to date."
The CD is entitled Day-Ahh which feature Melique's vocals as well as Damon's Tenor and Soprano Saxes. The title track is an amalgamation of all these elements., And as the CD progresses you get an essence of the passion these two artists feel for one another as well as for the music they are sharing with us.
Sandy Shore of SmoothJazz.com recommends tracks 1) Day-ahh 4) Visions & 9) When You Came Around, for radio airplay.
If you like contemporary Smooth Jazz at its best,Day-Ahh delivers.
